-Short Narrative Fiction-
We hear a ELECTRONIC BUZZING SOUND. Could be a doorbell or an alarm. Miranda reaches over and taps the alarm next to her bed but the BUZZING SOUND doesn’t stop. She realizes it must be the doorbell.
She throws back the covers in disgust. Miranda drags herself to the front door of her apartment. She’s wearing blue shorts. She opens the door and there is no one there. She takes a step out into the hallway, and trips over a box on the floor outside.
Miranda takes a large make up kit the size of a fishing tackle box to the bedroom. She notices that the make up kit has an entirely different set of make up bottles or glass jars. Each jar is peculiar in its shape and color. On top of each of these odd little jars is a label. Miranda takes out the jars one by one and we see they are named: "bored,"angry," "sad," and "happy."
Curious, Miranda applies the materials in the "angry" jar on her face, and her face immediately turns angry. She tries to change the expression, but it will not change. She sees that there is another jar that is labeled: "face removal." She applies those tissue wipes to her skin and returns to normal.
She tries all of the different mood jars, saving "sad" for last. Each time she cannot change the expression on her face until she applies the face removal cream.
Lastly, she tries "sad." However, when she applies the face removal cream, it does not work. She runs hard. Re-applies the face removal wipes, washes her face. Nothing works. She has a permanent sad expression on her face.
Still locked in the permanently sad face, Miranda searches for an outfit to wear. Nothing bright and colorful feels right. She ends up wearing for dark, black clothing. Miranda walks out the front door wearing black and an awful sad expression.
After using the "Sad" makeup kit, she has becomes depressed. Miranda searches more information about the 'SAD' makeup spell on the internet and finds out a way to become happy by donating the makeup kit to poor children.A Thank you letter from those children arrives at Miranda’s home.
